Dear GCGAPNA colleagues,
Greetings! First of all, I would like to thank our Chapter for giving me this opportunity to serve and continue to Co-Lead the Texas, GAPNA Gulf Coast Region as President for 7/ 2019 to 7/2020 implementing GAPNAs mission. Florence Nightingale once said, " To be in charge is certainly not to carry out the proper measures yourself but to see that everyone else does so too. " I am grateful to the support and mentorship of our past Chapter President (2017- 2019) Ms. Lisa Ginapp and her invaluable contributions to the Chapter and the community as we continue to provide quality care of older adults. We appreciate your continued support and dedication to GCGAPNA now serving the role of chapter secretary (2019-2021).
My experience with GCGAPNA started a year before graduation from my MSN Gerontological education back in 2007. My professor and one of the Co-founding directors of GAPNA’s and past President year 2000 Dr. Mary Pat Rapp. Many of us were blessed to either have work with Dr. Rapp, taught or precepted. She invited me to join the GCGAPNA and enjoy the benefits of networking with other GNPs as well as APRN GNP students, and to learn more of geriatric care practice. I have always been a member since then, but like many of us who have experienced periods of inactive to active visibility during chapter meetings either due to career, family and or continuing education demands some were "loss to follow -up" just like some of our patients.
However, throughout these years, it has always been a joy to attend our business meetings and enjoy dinner gatherings while networking with different APRNS of varying generations and coming from variable care settings. I continue to learn and get updates regarding trends in practice, who’s who and where to get resources, advocate on policy issues in general to APRNs practice. I also realized that my small contributions to the Chapter or colleagues, whether my time, consultations, or referrals such as job or learning opportunities are significant when shared with the group and disseminated to our community. I become more inspired as a Gerontological practice provider each time, and even prouder of my profession after each GAPNA meetings. Some of you, as GCGAPNA members have influenced my practice in one way or another, like my classmate, faculty advisor, colleague, or preceptor. My gratitude to all your contributions as share this learned knowledge and experience to our splendid geriatric healthcare profession.
Today, I invite and encourage everyone to join me and our current 2019 Board officers and mentors: Ms. Shuyan Bi (2019-2021) Treasurer, and our significant contributors to GC GAPNA’s growth Ms. Rebecca Saade and Ms. Lisa Ginapp. Come and experience the benefits and rewards of being a GCGAPNA active member! To quote GAPNAF's 2008 mission which still holds with our current national and Chapter's mission: to provide financial grants to support scholarly research and projects related to gerontological nursing, and to provide educational opportunities for registered nurses and advanced practice nurses working with older adults.” We need you!
We are looking forward to a partnership with you in achieving these goals. A year will go by so fast, and we don't want to miss this opportunity!
