Important Info: Registering for the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PMP)

Posted almost 6 years ago by Lisa Ginapp

Reposted from Texas Board of Nursing: An email was sent recently from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy to advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with prescriptive authority using the following email address:

no-reply-pmpaware@globalnotifications.com

with a subject line of: Texas Prescription Monitoring Program

Registration to notify all advanced practice registered nurses with prescriptive authority in Texas that an account was established for them to register for the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PMP).

Texas Health & Safety Code, Sec. 481.076 requires that effective September 1, 2019, all prescribers shall access the PMP prior to issuing prescriptions for opioids, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or carisoprodol.

If you have prescriptive authority in Texas and also have a US DEA registration number to prescribe controlled substances, the Board of Nursing strongly encourages you to register with the PMP through the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). The AWARxE program is a PMP that will allow you to query patient reports of controlled substance prescriptions in an effort to help you safely prescribe controlled substances. You can also query the PMP regarding your own prescribing practice to confirm that you issued all prescriptions linked to your prescriber identification in order to protect your prescriptive authority.

To register, follow the instructions in the email you may have received from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) or visit the TSBP’s website at www.pharmacy.texas.gov/PMP
